About me

Hello! I’m Preeti, the designer and maker behind CUcreates.

I’ve been on my crochet journey from the moment my grandma placed a crochet hook and a yarn ball into my hands. As a kid, I was instantly hooked by this beautiful, intricate art.

Cross stitch was similarly awe-inspiring when I tried it the first time during my school days. Watching the crosses slowly build up an image was mesmerising. The satisfaction I felt holding up my first completed cross stitch project remains unmatched to this day.

I’ve grown to love both of these crafts even more over the years, and have always wanted to share their joys with other creative people.

A decade ago, I started blogging about my crafting pursuits. I dipped my toes into all kinds of needlework. I found so many delightful friends from all over the globe and I learnt a lot from them. I came across talented designers who continue to inspire me. The creative community is one of the most welcoming ones to be a part of, and I cherish it dearly.

I’m not as active on my personal craft blog Creat-e-witty Unleashed anymore, but I’m so attached to it that I named my website ‘CUcreates’ after it. It’s almost a nickname!

I started my designing journey five years ago with another blog for crochet patterns. It unfortunately took a backseat due to family priorities for a while, but I rekindled my passion for designing, and my crochet and cross stitch designs were published in the now out-of-print Anchor Needle ‘n’ Thread Magazine, India.

I’m still just as keen about learning new needlework skills as I was when I held up that very first project, if not more so. I’m always awestruck by other wonderful designers’ work and love trying new crafts out.

Before my full-time creative ventures, I worked as an IT manager in the corporate world. I also worked as an assistant professor teaching computer science.

When I don’t have my hooks and needles with me, I’m either trying my hand at digital art, pottering around my little garden space, or spending time with my family. And of course, not to mention, tackling an enormous pile of unending household chores!
